Teachers set an example in dress and grooming for their students to follow.  A teacher should present an image of dignity and encourage respect for authority.  These factors act in a positive manner toward the maintenance of classroom discipline.  All staff members shall, when assigned to District duty, be physically clean, neat, and well groomed and dress in a manner reflecting professional assignment.

The District recognizes that members of the staff must enjoy private lives and may associate with others outside of school for political, economic, religious, cultural, or personal reasons.  The Board and its supervisory staff, however, have a responsibility to evaluate staff members in terms of their faithfulness to, and effectiveness in, discharging school duties and responsibilities.  Therefore, when nonschool activities threaten a staff member's effectiveness within the school system, the Board reserves that right to evaluate the impact of such activities upon a professional employee's responsibilities to the students and to the District's programs.

The District directs the Superintendent to promulgate guidelines so that staff members may avoid situations in which their personal interests, activities, and associations may conflict with the interests of the District.

Failure to comply with Policy GBEB may result in disciplinary action that may include termination.
